HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE DEATH?

Death, an idea so talked about yet indecipherable, although entirely certain, still manages to take you by surprise, swallows you to its pit, and melts you away. Weird how death can be abrupt, quick, and unforgiving for some, but so mellow and welcoming for others. No one talks about death as frequently and eagerly as one discusses life. Perhaps it's human nature to glorify youth, vitality, and exuberance. While steering clear of the crippling, debilitating, paralyzing death. But maybe it's because of the sheer disposition? After all, no amount of college, no life experience, no self-help could ever prepare a person for death, or that's at least what we like to think. So when it's simply unfathomable why even budge ?

Being woefully misinformed about death has led us to exaggerate the dramatic (natural disasters and terrorism) while underestimating the probable(chronic cancers or car accidents even when heart diseases remain the world's notorious killer). Some describe death as a plunge into a dank miserable place, others call it blissful perpetuity. The fabricated inklings of death have led us to obsess over life unconditionally. Horrific animations, dramatic movie scenes and wild guesses have only desensitised us from death. What we fail to recognise is that death remains certain, as true as it can be, standing square in our face. So much so that by the time you would read this, you would have lost around 4 million brain cells

What does death sound like?

Maybe it's the absence of footsteps

Or it's the raspy short breaths

When pulse begins to thump in the ears

And eyes rim with tears

A premonition of a tragedy you failed to foresee

Perhaps it's utter silence,

As loud as it can be.
